What we do and do not know about you.
Last updated: 21 August 2026
The short version
There is no account, so there is nothing to sign in to and nothing with your name on it. Your location never leaves your iPhone. The app asks our server for departure times at a stop, and that is the whole of what we receive.
Your location
If you allow it, BayTransit Widgets uses your iPhone's location to work out which transit stops are near you, so it can suggest them and keep the widget relevant as you move around.
That calculation happens entirely on your device. Your coordinates are never sent to us, never written to a log, and never shared with anyone. Our server has no way to accept a location even if it wanted one — the only things it will answer questions about are an agency and a stop code.
You can turn location access off at any time in Settings → BayTransit Widgets → Location, and the app still works: pick your stops by hand instead.
What our server does receive
Transit times come from 511.org, which limits how often anyone may ask for data. Rather than making every person register for their own developer key, we run a small server that holds the keys and keeps recent departures ready to serve. Your app talks to that server instead of to 511 directly.
When it does, the server sees:
- Which stop you asked about — an agency name and a stop code, such as "BART" and a station code.
- A session token that proves the request came from a genuine copy of the app rather than from someone abusing our keys. It is not tied to you, your Apple ID, or your device's identifiers.
- Your IP address, which is unavoidable for any request made over the internet.
We do not build a profile from any of this, do not link requests together into a history, and do not sell or share it. Departure data itself is cached briefly so the widget is fast — that cache is about stops, not about people.
Analytics and tracking
There are none. No analytics service, no crash reporting tool, no advertising identifier, no tracking library, no cookies. We do not measure how you use the app.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Your choices
- Turn off location access whenever you like, and keep using the app.
- Delete the app — everything it stored was on your device, so it goes with it.
- Email us with a question about any of this.
Changes to this policy
If this ever changes in a way that matters, the date at the top of this page changes with it and the app ships an update noting it.
